Suspected cultist nabbed for robbery in Lagos (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a suspected cultist, Sherrif Haruna, for robbing people of their valuables in the state.
The 22-year-old suspect, popularly known as ‘Ogida’, was arraigned before Chief Magistrate P. E Nwaka at the Yaba Magistrate’s Court on four counts of conspiracy, armed robbery and cultism.
Our correspondent gathered that Haruna belonged to a four-man syndicate that snatched a Toyota Camry last June.

Court remands man, 24, over alleged rape, robbery (Punch)
A 24-year-old man, Onyeka Nwafor was on Tuesday remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre by an Ikeja Magistrate court, sitting at the Ogba area of Lagos State.
Nwafor was arraigned for allegedly using a fake gun to rob one Henry Ajayi of his eight phones worth N5m and also allegedly raped a 30-year-old woman, Muidat Jimoh.
Magistrate Mrs . E. Kubenje gave the order after the defendant who is facing four charges bordering on robbery and rape levelled against him by the police was arraigned.
The police prosecutor, ASP Ola Olasiyan, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on August 20, 2022. Read more
2 cops in court for killing Lagos man (Punch)
A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Yaba, Lagos State, has remanded two of the four police inspectors initially arraigned and remanded by the court for allegedly killing a man, Buraimoh Gafaru, in the Ajah area of the state.
The suspects are Johnson Ime and Edet Effiong.
The incident which happened on December 6, 2023, at an estate in Sangotedo, Ajah, involved Ime, Effiong, Etederhi Obaseki and Harrison Ike, policemen attached to the Ajah Police Divisional Headquarters.
It was reported on January 30, 2023, that the four policemen, while on patrol on the day of the incident, visited an estate in the area, where suspected hoodlums camped in the community and the hoodlums on sighting the cops, fled as one of them was arrested. Read more
Teacher remanded for defiling 15-year-old student (Punch)
A magistrates’ court sitting in Yaba, in the Yaba Local Government Area of Lagos State, has ordered that a Yoruba teacher, Ololade Olayiwola, be remanded in a custodial centre.
Olayiwola, a Yoruba teacher at Fortland College located at 15, Bello Street, Mushin, was arraigned for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old student of the school.
He was arrested by the men of the state’s Area D Police Command, Mushin on February 15, 2023, on one count of sexual defilement.
The accused was said to have been having sexual intercourse with the victim, an under-aged, and had been in the act for a while in the school. Read more
Lagos police arrest 23 suspects for electoral offences (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command says 23 persons suspected to be involved in electoral violence and other crimes were arrested during the presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday in Lagos.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday.
Hundeyin said the figure of arrests might increase as the command was still collating the number of suspects arrested in different divisions during the exercise.
“Collation of suspects arrested is ongoing. 23 suspects were arrested at the last count,” he said. Read more

A polling unit outside the Oba Elegushi Palace at Ikate in Eti-Osa, Lekki, Lagos State has been attacked by thugs
The hoodlums reportedly attacked the area on Saturday afternoon carting away ballot boxes and chasing away the presiding officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
A resident in the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “The information I’m getting is that the violence erupted outside the Oba’s palace.
“The ballot boxes were snatched and everybody ran away. Thugs are still hanging around the area.” Read more
Man dupes jobseekers of N1.2m (Punch)
A 28-year-old man, Ekene Itodo, who allegedly obtained N1.2m from three people under false pretences of securing jobs for them, on Thursday appeared at an Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court, Lagos State.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Itodo is standing trial on five counts bordering on conspiracy, fraud and breach of peace.
He, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant and one person currently at large committed the offences on January 30 and February 6, 2023, on Ayerowi Street, Igando, Lagos. Read more
Chef in trouble for drugging employers, stealing property (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command said it has arrested a chef, Wilfred Amoussou, who allegedly specialises in drugging his employers and absconding with their valuables.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Thursday said the suspect had carried out the act at different times in Ikoyi, Banana Island and Parkview areas of the state.
Hundeyin wrote, “Wilfred Amoussou would take up a job as cook/chef, heavily sedate his employers with a substance called Benzodiazepines and steal their valuables. He has done this to different victims, over the years in Ikoyi, Banana Island and Parkview.
“Some of his previous victims have come forward to identify him. Have you been a victim? If yes, proceed to Ikoyi Police Division for further necessary action.”
40-year-old unemployed man defiles 15-year-old girl (Punch)
An Ikeja Magistrate’s Court on Thursday remanded a 40-year-old unemployed man, George Ukpong, in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, who did not take the plea of Ukpong, ordered that the case file should be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
Kubeinje adjourned the case till March 22 for DPP advice.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that Ukpong committed the offence on February 19 at Jaiye Oba Street, Shasha, Lagos.
Man arraigned for stealing generating set, television (Punch)
A 23-year-old man, Mathew Abidemi, was on Monday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s court sitting in the Ogba area of Lagos State for alleged theft.
Abidemi was accused of allegedly stealing a generating set valued at N120, 000 property of one Alhaji Kamal Mohammed and LG Plasma valued at N91,000 property of Adeokun Kehinde.
He was arraigned before the Magistrate, Mrs A.F Akinyemi.
He is facing three counts bordering on theft preferred against him by the police. Read more
EFCC arraigns NGO founder for N950m fraud (Punch)
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday arraigned one Usman Abubakar alongside his foundation, Young Alhaji Foundation, before a Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, over alleged N950m fraud.
Abubakar, who was brought before Justice Mojisola Dada, is facing five counts bordering on conspiracy, stealing and attempt to steal and obtain by false pretence preferred against him by the EFCC.
The EFCC’s prosecuting counsel, Bilikisu Buhari, told the court that the defendant and one Dr Abu Fawzi, who is still at large, conspired to commit the alleged fraud.
Buhari said the incident happened sometime between September 19 and 20, 2022. Read more
Hoodlums disrupt Lagos drug dealer’s arrest, police arraign suspects (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned five suspects for preventing policemen attached to the Iba Police Station from arresting a yet-to-be-identified suspected drug dealer and possessing hard drugs suspected to be Indian hemp in the Iba area of the state.
The suspects, Daniel Akwue, Micheal Owini, John Orji, Chukwuka Okonkwo, and Chinonso Godwin, were arraigned on Tuesday before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court sitting in the Ogba area of the state.
The suspects, who are facing four counts bordering on felony to wit breach of peace preferred against them by the police, were arraigned before Magistrate, M.A Adegbaye.

Alleged assault: Lagos court orders arrest of immigration officer for disobeying summons (Guardian)
Justice Sherifat Sonaike of a Lagos High Court sitting in Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), yesterday, ordered the arrest of an immigration officer, Umar Mohammed, for disobeying an earlier summons issued to him over alleged assault.
The order followed an application by Alaba Kuku, the state Counsel prosecuting on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), following Mohammed’s absence in court.
The court had on January 19, 2023, during the last sitting issued summons to Mohammed sequel to his refusal to appear in court to defend two charges filed against him by the state government.
The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Dr. Babajide Martins, in an application, asked the court to issue criminal summons against the defendant, to compel him to appear for his trial. Read more
Lagos NSCDC pledges to stamp out oil theft, intercepts 3,896 litres of PMS in Badagry (Guardian)
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has intercepted 3,896 litres of stolen petroleum products PMS during patrol of the creeks of Badagry.
The State Commandant of Corps (CC), Usman Ishaq Alfadarai, who disclosed this during the display of the seized products to newsmen at Alausa headquarters of the Command in Ikeja, said the products were recovered from some unscrupulous elements at the Badagry Divisional axis of the state.
According to him, during routine patrol, intelligence gathering and monitoring of critical national assets and infrastructure, the Corps’ operatives discovered petroleum products suspected to be stolen by economic saboteurs and kept in a bush path at Epeme village in Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Badagry, on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at about 01:35 hrs. Lagos police to probe alleged attempt on lady’s life over choice of candidate (Guardian)
Lagos State Police Command, on Tuesday, said it will investigate an alleged attempt on the life of a lady, Benedicta Christopher, by her neighbour over her choice of candidate in last Saturday’s election.
Spokesperson for the Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, advised that a formal complaint should be made.
The lady had alleged that her neighbour, popularly referred to as Ijebu attempted to kill her in Ogba area of Lagos for supporting a particular candidate against his own.
Narrating her ordeal to The Guardian yesterday, Benedicta said she narrowly escaped being killed after another neighbour who is a dispatch rider showed up in the compound. Read more
