Female passenger breaks bottle, stabs Lagos Uber driver over N4100 fare (Punch)
An Uber driver, identified only as Adewale, has accused a passenger, Laura, of stabbing him with a bottle during an argument in the Agungi area of Ajah, Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Adewale conveyed the lady from Ajao Estate to her friend’s house in Ajah on Tuesday.
After they got to the place, the driver demanded payment, but Laura reportedly claimed that she could not transfer money to him because her bank’s mobile application was not working.
Speaking with our correspondent, the 42-year-old driver said the passenger went inside the building to get money from her friends and returned with N2, 000. Read more
Married man abandons girlfriend in Lagos hotel room, rapes receptionist (Punch)
A Lagos resident, identified only as Fuad, has been arrested for allegedly raping a receptionist in a toilet in the Mutab Hotel and Suites on Abeokuta Street, in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the 19-year-old victim was asleep at the reception of the hotel when one of the lodgers woke her up at midnight and requested a towel.
It was learnt that the victim immediately left the reception, went to the backyard of the hotel to get the towel and was on her way to attend to the guest when she felt the urge to relieve herself.
The victim, who spoke to our correspondent on Sunday, said she decided to urinate at the general toilet at the backyard when Fuad accosted her inside the toilet. Read more
NAFDAC raids two warehouses in Lagos, seizes N3b banned drug (Tribune)
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Friday said its officials raided two warehouses in Lagos and carted away banned pharmaceutical drugs worth N3 billion.
Addressing the media in Lagos on Friday, the Director-General of the agency, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye explained that the owner of the warehouses, Mr Chuka Akajiobi a.k.a Akumia is currently on the run and still at large.
According to the NAFDAC DG, “I am delighted to welcome and update you on the activities of NAFDAC in her quest to ensure total elimination of Fake, Expired, Substandard, Banned, Adulterated and Falsely Labelled Medical Products, other Unsafe and Unwholesome NAFDAC Regulated Products from circulation.
“The officers of Investigation and Enforcement Directorate of NAFDAC and the Federal Task Force on Counterfeit and Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods raided two warehouses at the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos, where multiple cartons of banned drugs including 10 cartons of Tafradol (Tramadol 225mg) were found. EFCC arrests Fani-Kayode over alleged medical document forgery (Guardian)
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, over allegation of forgery and manipulation of documents.
It was learnt that the former minister was arrested yesterday to answer questions on possible forgery of hospital documents to hoodwink the court handling the case against him on money laundering with a view to stalling hearing.
He is currently being grilled at the Lagos office of the commission. EFCC’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the arrest of the former minister to The Guardian.
The anti-graft agency had charged Fani-Kayode alongside a former Minister of State for Finance, Nenadi Usman. Also charged is Yusuf Danjuma, a former Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), and a company, Jointrust Dimensions Nig. Ltd. Read more
Customs seizes 1.5m tablets of Tramadol at Lagos cargo airport (Channels)
Operatives of the Nigerian Customs Service on Tuesday intercepted about 1.5m tablets of Tramadol at the Lagos State cargo airport.
The items were seized by officers of the Murtala Mohammed Area Command of Customs at the SAHCO Import shed in Lagos.
Addressing journalists at the command warehouse, the Area Controller of Muritala Mohammed Area Command, Sambo Dangaladima said that although no suspect has been arrested, the items valued at N92.3 million were impounded for further action.
Controller Dangaladima noted that within his five months of taking over as the area commander, the revenue figure has risen to N3 billion compared with the same period last year. Read more
Police arrest 5 in Lagos, recover guns, ammunition as vehicle Owner flee (NewTelegraph)
Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), have arrested three suspects including a lady and recovered pump action gun, cartridges and revolver gun in a vehicle belonging to an alleged land grabbers at the Ajah area of Lagos State.
The suspects , it was learnt were coming from Alpha Beach on Saturday November 20, when their vehicle was flagged down by policemen during stop and search and a pump action gun, locally made revolver and 21 live cartridges were recovered in the Spot Utility Vehicle of the suspects with a customised number plate ‘TEPAOJE’ .
The suspects were identified as Ayomide Adeolu (24), Quam Olanrewaju (19), Oladele Giwa (16), Basit Adams (17) and Abibat Ayinde (20).
It was also gathered that the vehicle belongs to one Bariyu, a land grabber, alias Bado who also own a bar at Alpha Beach where a party took place on the day. Read more
Lagos ASUSS mourns, condemns murder of biology teacher in Epe (Independent)
The Academic Staff Union of Secondary School (ASUSS), Lagos State chapter, on Tuesday, condemned the gruesome murder of a teacher, Mr. Hameed Sa’heed, popularly known as “World Morgan.”
The union, in a statement made available to Daily Independent, appealed to the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to ensure the culprits are brought to book to serve as a deterrent to others planning to unleash terror on teachers in the state.
ASUSS said, Mr. Hameed Sa’heed, until his murder by a yet to identified gunmen was a staff of Army Children Senior High School, Epe, Lagos State, and teaches Biology.
The union stated that was reportedly shot several times and stabbed by the alleged unknown youths (boys) at his shop in Poka, Epe, Lagos on Friday, November 19, 2021at about 7:10 p.m. Read more
Man docked for allegedly stealing from girlfriend’s piggy bank (Nation)
A 33-year-old man, Azubuike Omenehu, who allegedly stole N120, 000 from his girlfriend’s piggy bank, on Wednesday appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Omenehu, of No 45, Makanjuola St., Orile Iganmu, Lagos, is being tried for stealing and escaping from lawful custody.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Nov. 3, at the same address.
He said that the girlfriend and complainant, Mercy Nwaoga, insisted that the defendant was the only person who knew where her wooden safe was. Read more
