Fire has reportedly gutted the popular Dosunmu Market in Lagos Island.
An X user, who shared a video from the scene, said the fire was due to a generator explosion on Tuesday.
“Just in guys, Eko Idumota (Dosunmu) Market is on fire due to generator explosion, and no firefighters in sight yet.

Bandits have shot dead a police officer whose identity is yet to be ascertained.
The office was killed when police foiled the abduction of family members of the incumbent chairman of Bwari area council, John Gabaya.

World Health Day: Yobe reports drop in active cerebrospinal meningitis cases (Channels)
After weeks of battling with the outbreak of cerebrospinal meningitis, the Yobe State government has said it now has only 25 active cases of the disease, stressing that the outbreak is significantly reducing.
This was revealed by the Commissioner for Health in the State, Dr. Lawan Gana who was represented by Abdullahi Danchuwa, at a World Health Day Commemoration organised by the World Health Organisation in Damaturu on Tuesday.
Danchuwa commended the WHO, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and other developmental partners for their roles in fighting the disease. Read more
Police cybercrime centre foils fake currency ring, recovers fake $100k notes (Vanguard)
The Nigeria Police Force said on Tuesday that its National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) has arrested one Muhammed Zenabdin for criminal conspiracy and possession of suspected counterfeit currency amounting to one hundred thousand ($100,000.00).
A statement by Force headquarters said the significant breakthrough is a show of commitment by the NPF-NCCC in delivering on its mandate to stamp out and decimate the trend of cybercrime in the country.

Ebonyi blacklists 29 firms over substandard, delayed jobs (Leadership)
The Ebonyi State Government said a total of 29 contracting firms handling the Izzo and Amaeze Autonomous Communities’ 140 housing units in Ishielu Local Government Area of the state have been blacklisted and barred from executing further contract in the state till the end of the administration.
The estate, the state said, was conceived to resettle the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) during the Ezza, Ezillo Communal crisis that led to the death of many persons and destruction of properties worth billions.
Briefing Journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting held at the New Government House in Abakaliki, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Engr. The Governor, in his goodwill message signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, said the holy month of Ramadan symbolizes love, self-denial and sacrifice and as such, Muslims must sacrifice all their interests to seek truth and justice as the holy Quran teaches.

Kenya: 41 passengers rescued after floodwaters swept a bus off a bridge (AfricaNews)
Fifty-one passengers were rescued after the bus they were traveling in was swept away by floodwaters on a river bridge in northern Kenya, authorities said Tuesday (Apr.9).
The bus is still stuck in the river some 30 meters away from the bridge, although the waters are continuing to subside,Tana River county commander Ali Ndiema told The Associated Press.
Ndiema said the road has now been closed indefinitely. He said anyone found violating the order will be arrested and charged. Read more
UN says 38 dead, including children, as migrant boat sinks off Djibouti (AlJazeera)
At least 38 migrants and refugees, including children, have died after their boat sank off the coast of Djibouti, the United Nations migration agency has said, after their bodies were recovered.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said in a post on X on Tuesday that at least six others are missing and presumed dead, and that 22 survivors are being assisted by its representatives in the East African country, along with local officials.
This adds to nearly 1,000 people who have been recorded to have died or gone missing after embarking on the “Eastern Route” since 2014, the IOM said. Read more
Tesla settles lawsuit over Autopilot crash that killed Apple engineer (NBC)
Tesla has settled a wrongful death lawsuit brought by the family of Walter Huang, an Apple engineer and father of two who died after his Model X SUV, with Autopilot features switched on, crashed into a highway barrier near Mountain View, California, in 2018.
The settlement comes as jury selection and a trial were just beginning on Monday in a California Superior court. The settlement allows Tesla to avoid airing evidence and testimonies in a widely-followed case.
The National Transportation Safety Board investigated the fatal crash and revealed, in 2020, that it found Tesla’s tech was at least partly to blame for the collision, along with possible driver distraction and problematic road construction. NTSB believed that Huang had been looking at a game on his phone at some point before the collision. Read more

The infamous Willy’s Chocolate Experience which prompted police to be called to a Glasgow warehouse by angry parents will be recreated in Los Angeles later this month.
The unofficial event quickly went viral and inspired many memes after it hit the headlines in February.

A female footballer has allegedly been murdered by her partner – who killed himself just minutes later. The couple’s seven-year-old son was reportedly also in the house at the time.
Florencia Guiñazú, 30, who played for Club Atletico Argentino de Mendoza in Argentina, was allegedly strangled to death by her partner Ignacio Agustín Noto, 32. The tragic incident took place in their home on the afternoon of April 6. Read more
