Ikeja Bus Terminal to cater for 4m daily, 800 buses to start operations (Guardian)
The Lagos State Government says it will deploy over 800 buses soon to start operations at the newly inaugurated Ikeja Bus Terminal. Mr. Ladi Lawanson, the state Commissioner for Transportation, made the disclosame during a visit to the terminal and the Oshodi Transport Interchange construction site on Saturday. According to him, the newly procured buses will enable efficient and effective transportation to classes of Lagos residents. “The state government is coming with multimodal and integrated transportation system which will take care of about four million people on a daily basis across the state. “The idea is to cater for Lagos residents of especially lower and middle classes, who cannot afford to fund their own cars everyday. Visionscape promises cleaner Lagos (Nation)
The Visionscape Sanitation Solutions (VSS) has restated its commitment to the Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI) policy. The firm expressed its willingness to work with PSP operators. Visionscape’s Head of Corporate Communication Motunrayo Elias said this during a chat with The Nation in Lagos. She said over 100 PSP operators had joined Visionscape to assist in waste collection. “Our plan is to serve the residential areas of Lagos. We have a lot of black spots or illegal dump sites in the state. We want to clear the black spots before moving into the residential areas,” she said. Elias praised the PSPs for the work they did before Visionscape came. She said the company was willing to work with PSP operators. She explained that tremedous progress had been made. “We are willing and we have made progress and we will work together,” Elias said, adding that though the firm started operations last January, progress had been made in delivering a cleaner Lagos. Lagos State Civil Service has come a long way in reducing waste while increasing productivity. This is partly the result of the extensive investments in knowledge and skills by the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode. For these investments, the state Civil Service remains grateful. The importance of eliminating waste cannot be over-emphasised. Countless studies have shown that, with good and sound processes relating to management of time and resources, one finds that meagre resources can be extended to produce outstanding results. Last Monday, Christendom’s Easter Monday, Lagosians woke up to behold their governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, move from one place to another with a crowd of loyalists, government officials and thousands of enthusiastic residents. The governor was performing the historic commissioning of a large network of 19 roads and two bridges in Alimosho local council. With a combined stretch of 27.4 kilometers, the streets are sited in the inner suburbs, far removed from the familiar expressway, notably the Lagos Abeokuta highway. Until that Monday, this overworked human and vehicular route used to be the economic and business hub of the people of Alimosho-OkeOdo-Agbado area, the largest federal constituency in Nigeria. But a visionary and compassionate governor confronted the hardship ensuing from this arrangement, as well as its effect on Africa’s fifth largest economy. Read more

Lagos residents laud LG boss over road project (Nation)
Residents and road users in Shitta roundabout, Surulere, can now heave a sigh of relief with the complete renovation and formal launch of that portion of road. For years, the spot had been a source of constant headache for both residents and passers bye due to the spoilt drainage system causing sewage water to overrun the road and its environ. The Surulere Local Government team led by its chairman, Hon. Tajudeen Ajide, during the inauguration yesterday, said it is another promise kept. He said: “it was part of the promise that we made before assuming office to fix this popular spot which had become a sore point in Surulere. NBA Ikorodu holds Law Week (ThisDay)
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikorodu Branch has begun its 2018 Annual Law Week. It commenced on Friday, April 6, with a press briefing addressed by the branch Chairman, Mr. Levi Adikwaone and other executives of the branch and a Jumat service at the Majolape Mosque, Ebute, Ikorodu. Health Talk and Free medical screening also held on Friday. According to Adikwaone, the Law Week is usually a week set aside by the branches of the NBA in Nigeria to celebrate the Legal Profession. Adikwaone, during the press briefing disclosed that the members of the Branch would today attend a Thanksgiving church service at the Redeem Christian Church of God (RCCG), Overcomers Parish, Pashoku, Ikorodu He said other activities lined up to mark the Week include: the Bar and Police Forum on Monday, during which members of the branch would visit the Area N Police Command and other police formations under the command with a view to offering legal assistance to those in custody. After showing in Osogbo, Abuja and the US, ‘Vision of the Last Quarter’, the art exhibition celebrating 50 years of Osogbo Art, opened at Thought Pyramid Art Centre, Ikoyi, Lagos on March 30. Why women nag in relationships — respondents (Nation)
Some women in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have given reasons why many of them nag in relationships than their male counterparts. Many males assume that women have inclination for nagging if they want something done for them, an attitude that annoys or irritates the targeted person. However, some women, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in separate interviews on Sunday, said that women were only sensitive, responsive and vocal by nature. They gave reasons such as ineffective communication, lack of understanding, and insensitive attitude of their partners, among other factors, as some of the causes of their overt and confrontational attitude. Troops rescue 149 persons, kill 3 Boko Haram insurgents (Nation)
The Nigerian Army on Sunday said its troops rescued 149 persons in the ongoing clearance operation against remnants of Boko Haram insurgents at Yerimari-Kura community in Sambisa axis. Col. Onyeama Nwachukwu, the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, said in a statement that the troops killed five insurgents and captured five others in the encounter. “Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole have continued to make progress in clearance operations to smoke out Boko Haram insurgents who escaped from their previous stronghold in the Sambisa Forest. “On Saturday, the troops made further operational exploit into Boko Haram’s hideout at Yerimari-Kura, in a deliberate operation to extricate and rescue hostages held by the insurgents in their hideout. Russia denies chemical weapons used in Syria’s Douma, Ifax reports (Reuters)
Russia dismissed reports of a deadly chemical weapons attack in Syria’s Douma, Interfax news service reported on Sunday, citing Russia’s Ministry of Defence. At least 49 people have been reported killed in the attack on the rebel-held enclave of Douma on Saturday evening. “We decidedly refute this information,” Major-General Yuri Yevtushenko, head of the Russian peace and reconciliation centre in Syria, was cited as saying. “We hereby announce that we are ready to send Russian specialists in radiation, chemical and biological defence to collect information, as soon as Douma is freed from militants. This will confirm the trumped-up nature of these statements,” Yevtushenko is quoted as saying. Read more
Church memorial service to be held for victims of German van attack (premierchristianradio)
A senior church leader in Germany has called for a memorial service to remember the victims of a van attack. German prosecutors have no indication why a 48-year-old man drove a van into a crowd of people in the western city of Munster, killing two and injuring 20 before shooting himself dead inside the van. “As of now, we don’t have any leads regarding a possible background for the deed,” prosecutor Martin Botzenhardt wrote in a joint statement with police. “The investigations are being led under high pressure in all possible directions.” Read more
