Lagos cancer doctor, Olaleye, bags life jail for rape (Punch)
Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, Ikeja on Tuesday convicted the founder of Optimal Cancer Foundation, Dr Femi Olaleye, after he found him guilty of defiling his wife’s 16-year-old niece.
The judge held that the prosecution proved the two counts charge of defilement and sexual assault by penetration against Olaleye.
He stated that the evidence that was presented before the court, against the convict, was compelling and proven beyond reasonable doubt. Read more
How man raped septuagenarian to death –Police (Punch)
An Assistant Superintendent of Police, Babatunde Ashifat, on Tuesday, narrated to the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court how a man, Jelili Lawal, raped a septuagenarian to death.
The witness who was led in evidence in chief by the state counsel, Ms Bukola Okeowo, told the court that he received the case for investigation on January 2, 2019.
Ashifat stated that the case was reported at their station by an officer who was on patrol. Read more
Court remands man for defiling neighbour’s 13-year-old granddaughter (Punch)
A police inspector, Oyebisi Bolaji, on Monday, told an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Lagos how a 40-year-old man, Monday Daniel, allegedly defiled his neighbour’s 13-year-old granddaughter.
Bolaji, a prosecution witness who was led in evidence by the prosecuting counsel, Olufunke Adegoke, told the court that the minor who lives with her grandmother was defiled by the defendant at the Elere Agege area of the state.
The witness also told Justice Abiola Soladoye that another neighbour, Uche Ube, caught the defendant in the act and raised the alarm. Read more
Extortion: 14 LASTMA officials to face disciplinary panel (Punch)
Fourteen officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority caught at different locations across the state extorting money from motorists are set to face a disciplinary panel.
The agency’s Public Relations Officer, Adebayo Taofiq, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday.
According to the statement, the 14 male officials include 11 officials on the senior cadre and three junior officials.
Taofiq quoted the agency’s General Manager, Mr Bolaji Oreagba, as saying that the cases against them had been investigated and that the next phase was for them to face the panel. Read more
Police begin extradition of ‘‘KillaBoi’’ over girlfriend’s murder (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, has confirmed that it has commenced the extradition process of an Instagram influencer, Benjamin Nnanyereugo popularly known as KillaBoi, who has been arrested by Sierra Leonean authorities following complaints that he killed his late girlfriend, Augusta Osedion.
Hundeyin revealed this on Saturday, in an exclusive telephone interview with our correspondent.
“We have commenced the extradition process to bring KillaBoi into custody in Nigeria,” Hundeyin noted. Read more
Illegal waste disposal: 26 persons convicted in Lagos (Vanguard)
A Magistrate Court, sitting in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State has sentenced 26 persons to community service for dumping waste indiscriminately in different parts of the state.
Recall that 29 people were earlier sentenced to fines and community service by a magistrate’s court in Oshodi for engaging in indiscriminate waste disposal at different locations in the metropolis.
Of the 26 persons convicted, the Environmental Special Offences Court of Lagos State District presided over by Magistrate Mcdavies Amore, also imposed a ₦30,000 fine per person or option of community service for engaging in reckless waste disposal across various locations in the state. Read more
BRT Rape: Blunt force trauma caused Bamise’s death – Pathologist (Vanguard)
A pathologist at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Prof. Sunday Shoyemi, on Friday said that the death of a 22-year-old fashion designer, Oluwabamise Ayanwole, was caused by a blunt force trauma on the head.
The pathologist gave evidence before a Lagos State High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square, at the ongoing trial of a Bus Rapid Transit driver, Andrew Ominnikoron.
Ominnikoron is standing trial for alleged rape and murder of Ayanwole. Read more
Navy arrests 11 stowaways inside Ghana-bound ship (Vanguard)
Nigerian Navy Ship, Beecroft, Apapa Lagos, has arrested 11 stowaways from a tanker, Gwangzhou Highway Panama, which was enroute Ghana.
This was barely three weeks after a similar arrest of eight Nigerians, who sneaked onto a ship, which was on its way out of the country to Europe, was made.
Explaining how the stowaways were intercepted, the Commander, NNS Beecroft, Commodore Kolawole Oguntuga, yesterday, said: “In a display of exceptional vigilance, the Nigerian Navy Ship, Beecroft, patrol team, while on routine patrol, successfully intercepted and apprehended some individuals, on Tuesday, at about 7pm, at obscure spaces of the stern gate on board Gwangzhou Highway Panama, which was enroute Ghana. Police arrest Inspector shooting for fun in Lagos market (DailyTrust)
A Police Inspector identified as Istifanus Kwanchi has been arrested on the orders of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, for allegedly firing shots at the popular Ladipo market in the Mushin area of the state.
The mobile Police Inspector was seen in a viral video firing repeatedly into the air to celebrate the reopening of the auto parts market.
The state government had in September 2023 shut down four markets: Ladipo, Agbado Oke-Odo, Oyingno and Alayabiagba markets over environmental infractions. Read more
