The Lagos State Government has impounded 28 vehicles at Berger Bus Stop along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The vehicles were seized for illegally converting a designated layby into an impromptu garage, causing significant disruptions to traffic flow.
The operation, carried out by the Ministry of Transportation in conjunction with the State’s task force, is part of a broader initiative to improve traffic management and public order across the metropolis. Commissioner for Transportation, Seun Osiyemi, announced the development via the Ministry’s official X account on Saturday.
“This action was necessary to restore smooth traffic flow and ease commuter movement,” Osiyemi stated. He reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to enforcing traffic regulations and maintaining orderly roads throughout Lagos.
Osiyemi assured the public that similar enforcement drives would be conducted regularly across the state to prevent further infractions and ensure an efficient road network for all users. This crackdown is the latest in a series of efforts by the Lagos State Government to tackle traffic violations and improve urban mobility.
Recent months have seen intensified enforcement activities, resulting in numerous vehicle impoundments for various offences. These include unauthorised use of lay-bys and walkways as motor parks, illegal stopping on highways, and indiscriminate parking.
The Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018 provides the legal framework for these enforcement actions, outlining a range of traffic violations that can lead to vehicle impoundment. These include driving without valid documentation, disobeying traffic personnel and operating commercial vehicles without proper permits or beyond approved hours.
