Lagos serves Ikoyi building owners contravention notice (Channels)
The Lagos State Government has served contravention notice to property owners along the corridor of Shoreline Estate, Onikoyi Estate, Park View, and Banana Island whose properties fall within channel setbacks.
The government issued a seven-day ultimatum to house owners along the corridor of the state to remove their fences encroaching on drainage channels.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, stated this over the weekend while addressing newsmen after an inspection of some areas in Ikoyi, including the State House, Dodan Barracks. Read more
Tinubu arrives Borno for Chief of Army Staff Conference (Leadership)
President Bola Tinubu has arrived Maiduguri, Borno State capital, for the annual Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Conference.
His plane touched down around 11:47am at the Air Force Base in Maiduguri and observed a brief military parade in his honour.
He was received by Borno State governor, Babagana Zulum; former governor of the State, Ali Modu Sheriff; Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, and Senator Ali Ndume, among other dignitaries. Read more
Lagos targets 60 days for landlord-tenant dispute resolution (Punch)
The Lagos State Government says it is committed to quick dispensation of justice, saying it is particularly looking at a situation where landlord-tenant disputes are resolved within 60 days in court.
The state Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro (SAN), gave the hint at the weekend during a parley with judiciary correspondents.
Pedro harped on the need to maintain law and order in the state to boost investor’s confidence. Read more
Veteran NTA broadcaster Aisha Bello dies (Nation)
A veteran broadcaster with the Nigerian Television Authority, Aisha Bello Mustapha, is dead.
Bello, who was well known on the Network News at 9pm, was said to have passed on in the early hours of Monday, December 11.

Gunmen kidnap traditional ruler, kill aide in Cross River (Vanguard)
The traditional ruler of Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River, HRM Maurice Edet was on Sunday night abducted by gunmen at his residence in the council area.
Vanguard gathered that an aide to the traditional ruler was shot dead in the process of abduction which lasted for hours.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Cross River State Police Command, SP Irene Ugbo confirmed the incident but said details of the abduction were unknown to her as at the time of filing this report. Read more
World Human Rights Day: NOCSON tasks Nigerian politicians on selflessness for nation’s growth (Sun)
The Network of Civil Society Organizations of Nigeria (NOCSON), has tasked Nigerian politicians to jettison personal interest for the overall interest of the larger society if the country must attain its pride of place in the comity of nations.
President of the group, Comrade Emmanuel Ogbidi made the call while marking the United Nations 75th anniversary of the World Human Rights Day with the theme “Dignity, Justice and Freedom for All” in Benin.
He said the major challenge besetting the country is that of leadership and that, until we get it right, no meaningful development can be made. Read more
FG frees 43 inmates in Custodial centres in Plateau (Guardian)
The Federal Ministry of Interior has secured the release of 43 inmates serving jail terms in custodial centres in Plateau.
This is contained in a statement issued on Monday in Jos by ASC Godfrey Longdiem, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Plateau Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
Longdiem quoted the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji- Ojo, as saying that the gesture was in line with the ”Renewed Hope” agenda of President Bola Tinubu. Read more
Blind mother seeks help as stepdaughter disappears with baby (Punch)
A visually impaired woman, Agnes Forte, has raised the alarm over the disappearance of her one-year-old baby, Excel, in the Akowonjo area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Excel was in the company of her stepsister, Joy, on Tuesday, November 28, when she was last seen.
Agnes, who spoke to our correspondent, said she was in the room when the 13-year-old Joy and Excel were both playing along the corridor of their apartment. Read more

On Monday morning, Cedric the Entertainer and Wilmer Valderrama announced the nominees for the 81st Golden Globe Awards, honouring the top film and television series from the past year.
Barbie led among films with nine total nominations, followed by Oppenheimer with eight. Killers of the Flower Moon and Poor Things both earned seven nominations. War-torn Sudan faces ‘catastrophe’ as UN runs out of funds (AfricaNews)
Of nearly 25 million people in need, the United Nations has only been able to reach a fraction, according to the head of the UN’s humanitarian response in war-torn Sudan.
But assistance to even those four million could soon stop, Clementine Nkweta-Salami told AFP in an interview, if the chronic lack of funding continues.
The UN’s humanitarian Coordinator for Sudan says eight months into a conflict between rival generals that has torn the country apart, the situation is “catastrophic”. Read more
Mort Engelberg, Smokey and the Bandit producer who worked on Bill Clinton’s presidential campaigns, dies at 86 (THR)
Mort Engelberg, who was a producer on films including Smokey and the Bandit and The Big Easy before transitioning into politics as an “advance man” for Bill Clinton and other presidential candidates, died Saturday in Los Angeles of natural causes. He was 86.
“He was a wonderful person, a wonderful husband. He loved the movie business, and he loved his work with President Clinton,” his wife, Helaine Blatt, told The Hollywood Reporter. “He told the best stories of anyone I ever met, the best jokes.”
Born and raised in Memphis, Engelberg graduated from the University of Illinois and then spent a year working on a master’s degree in journalism at the University of Missouri. He left school before completing that degree and worked as a journalist for a few years before moving to Washington in 1961 to work for Sargent Shriver, the director of the then-newly formed Peace Corps, and later followed Shriver to the Office of Economic Opportunity, the headquarters of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s War on Poverty. Read more
Anna Cardwell: Honey Boo Boo pays tribute to sister who dies aged 29 (BBC)
Anna Cardwell, the sister of reality TV star Honey Boo Boo and co-star of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, has died aged 29.
Cardwell had been diagnosed with adrenal cancer in January 2023.
In an Instagram post, Honey Boo Boo, real name Alana Thompson, 18, said: “Anna was in so much pain last night but now we all know she is at peace.” Read more

UK sends minehunters to boost Ukraine’s Black Sea forces (AlJazeera)
The UK has transferred two minehunter ships to Ukraine as part of a new push to strengthen the country’s presence in the Black Sea amid Russia’s invasion.
The UK’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced Ukraine’s procurement of the two Royal Navy vessels on Monday. The deal is part of a new Maritime Capability Coalition, led by Britain and Norway, aimed at providing long-term military support to bolster security in the Black Sea.
The focus on maritime operations has increased after nearly two years of war. Ukraine has targeted Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, which is based in the annexed Crimea peninsula, as it has sought to use ships to export grain. Read more
India’s Supreme Court upholds decision to remove Kashmir’s special status (NBC)
India’s top court on Monday upheld a 2019 decision by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government to strip disputed Jammu and Kashmir’s special status as a semi-autonomous region with a separate constitution and inherited protections on land and jobs.
The five-judge constitutional bench of the Supreme Court ruled that the region’s special status had been a “temporary provision” and that removing it in 2019 was constitutionally valid.
The unprecedented move also divided the region into two federal territories, Ladakh and Jammu-Kashmir, both ruled directly by the central government without a legislature of their own. As a result, the Muslim-majority region is now run by unelected government officials and has lost its flag, criminal code and constitution. Read more

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has returned to AC Milan as an advisor to the Serie A club’s management, owners RedBird Capital Partners confirmed on Monday.
In a statement, American investment firm RedBird said that the former Sweden striker, who won a host of trophies as a player in Italy, will “serve as a senior advisor to AC Milan ownership and senior management”.
The 42-year-old has also been hired as “Operating Partner” for RedBird’s “sports and media and entertainment investment portfolio”. Read more

Oosthuizen fought off fellow LIV member, and Stingers GC teammate Charl Schwartzel to win the event at Leopard Creek by two shots. The South African was back in DP World Tour action for the second time in two months, with the event co-sanctioned with the Sunshine Tour.

Everton submitted their appeal on Friday against a 10-point deduction handed down by the Premier League for breaches of financial sustainability rules.
The Toffees have reacted furiously after being hit with the toughest sporting sanction in Premier League history for breaching loss-making limits in the 2021/22 season.
