Microsoft stops Windows 10 update after it started randomly deleting people’s files

Microsoft has halted the rollout of its latest update to the Windows 10 operating system after users started complaining that it was wiping their files.

The October 2018 update was revealed last week and will bring with it a few new features, like a supercharged clipboard and screenshot tool as well as dark mode for nightime viewing.

Unfortunately, those eager fans that went ahead and downloaded it found the new software was chewing up and removing their personal documents.

‘We have paused the rollout of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) for all users as we investigate isolated reports of users missing some files after updating,’ the company wrote on its Windows support site.

There’s no telling how many people are affected, but the bug could cause serious problems for anyone that hasn’t backed up their files for a while. Read more
