Police nab thug seen assaulting woman in viral video (Vanguard)

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested one Friday Onu, who was seen in a viral video on the Lekki-Epe Expressway assaulting Mrs Yetunde Amole in an attempt to steal her car battery.

In a statement shared by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin explained that the incident occurred on Monday, April 7th, near the Oriental Hotel area of the state, when Onu was caught attempting to steal Amole’s car battery. She resisted, which consequently led to him assaulting her.

Hundeyin added that the suspected thug, Onu, had been arrested by operatives of the Maroko Division but suddenly fell ill and was transferred to Falomo Police Station. (Read more)

Assault on LASTMA Officers: Court sentences 2 commercial drivers to jail (Vanguard)

A Lagos Mobile Court has sentenced 2 commercial drivers to 3 months’ imprisonment for launching a violent, coordinated mob attack on operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) while they were carrying out their lawful duties.

The sentencing took place on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

The convicts, Mohammed Musa and Muhammed Nasara, were apprehended following the unprovoked assault, which occurred on Monday, April 7, in the vicinity of LASTMA’s Central District (Zone 9), located along the Victoria Island/Lekki corridor. (Read more)

Police intensify probe into abduction of 5-year-old girl in Lagos (Punch)

Following a report by PUNCH Metro on the abduction of 5-year-old Memunah Abdulrahman by an unidentified man in the Ejigbo area of Lagos State, the family has confirmed that officers from the State Criminal Investigation Department have taken over the case.

PUNCH Metro reported on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, that the family appealed to the public for help following the abduction.

The five-year-old girl was believed to have been abducted on March 9, 2025, inside a store in the Ejigbo area while she and her sister were returning from an Islamic school. (Read more)

Families lament as cases against dismissed policemen stall in court (Punch)

Families of victims allegedly killed by dismissed policemen, Corporal Aremu Musiliu, and Inspector Dikko Usman, have expressed frustration at the delay in concluding the case against the officers.

A mother of four, Mrs Comfort Udoh was allegedly shot and killed by Corporal Musiliu at Isheri Bus Stop when returning from church, while Inspector Usman was fingered in killing the Baale of Lotu in Ibeju-Lekki on July 15, 2023, over a land dispute.

Udoh was returning from church along with her husband, Godwin and their four children, while the community leader was reportedly killed in the presence of his wife and teenage daughter. (Read more)

NDLEA arrests 75-year-old man, siblings for drugs (Punch)

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a 75-year-old grandfather, Nna Nnanna Felix, and two brothers, John Abugu, 43, and Kenneth Abugu, 31, in separate operations against illicit drug activities.

The Abugu brothers were arrested on Thursday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos while attempting to board a flight to India.

The NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday, said the suspects were caught with five kilograms of cocaine concealed within the walls of their suitcases.(Read more)

3 killed in murder incidents across Lagos (Punch)

The Lagos State police command, on Monday, reported incidents of murder in the Ojo, Agege and Ikotun areas of the state.

Addressing journalists at the command headquarters, the Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said it has arrested a man identified as Kamoru Ojo for allegedly killing her 27-year-old daughter, Shakirat, at Afromedia community in the Ojo area of Lagos State. (Read more)

Court orders Lagos socialite to begin drug trafficking case defence (Punch)

A Federal High Court in Lagos has dismissed the no-case submission filed by Lagos socialite, Mrs. Funmilola Ogbuaya, popularly known as Ariket, in her ongoing drug trafficking trial.

Justice Deinde Dipeolu ruled on Monday that the prosecution had successfully established a prima facie case against Ogbuanya, necessitating that she open her defence.

Ogbuanya is facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful possession, aiding and abetting, and the attempted exportation of 1.595 kilograms of cocaine to Saudi Arabia. (Read more)
