Power supply has been restored after the national electricity grid collapsed on Thursday.
The grid collapse resulted in a massive loss of supply to power distributors nationwide.
But hours after this, the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (Eko Electric), said power supply has been restored from the grid.

How explosion at Kainji caused nationwide blackout – Power minister, Adelabu (Vanguard)
Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu has disclosed the cause of the nationwide blackout that happened in the early hours of Thursday.
The minister said there was an explosion that led to a fire outbreak at Kainji/Jebba located in the North-central part of Nigeria.
Adelabu in a series of tweets on X platform on Thursday said, “At 00:35Hrs this morning, Fire outbreak with explosion sound was observed on Kainji/Jebba 330kV line 2 (Cct K2J) blue phase CVT & Blue phase line Isolator of Kainji/Jebba 330kV line1 was observed burning. This led to sharp drops in frequency from 50.29Hz to 49.67 Hz at 0:35:06Hrs with Jebba generation loss of 356.63MW. Read more
Nigeria experiences a nationwide power outage (AfricaNews)
Nigeria experienced a nationwide power outage Thursday after the country’s electrical grid collapsed due to technical failures, the West African nation’s electricity distribution companies reported.
The outage affected all of Nigeria’s 36 states and the capital city of Abuja. The grid has collapsed multiple times, and it was not clear when power would be restored.
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), which supplies electricity to southeastern Nigeria, issued a statement announcing a “total system” collapse. “Due to this development … we are unable to provide service to our customers,” company spokesperson Emeka Ezeh said. Read more

Lagos state government yesterday reiterated its commitment to advancing gender equality and women empowerment in the state, saying plans are afoot to ensure over 200,000 women are empowered in the state.
The newly reappointed Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Mrs. Cecilia Dada who disclosed this on resumption of office said about 65, 000 women were empowered by the ministry under her watch in her first tenure in office.
Dwelling on her future plans for her ministry, Dada said she envisions a Ministry that is result- oriented, proactive, and innovative in its approach, saying they will leverage on technology and data to enhance their services and create effective solutions to the challenges faced by the targeted demographics. Following the death of Nigerian rapper Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, better known as Mohbad, controversial Nigerian music artiste Habeeb Okikiola, known professionally as Portable, has prayed against untimely death that would be used to promote his glory.

The Court of Appeal Abuja Division, on Thursday reinstated Honourable Ngozi Okolie of the Labour Party (LP) as the authentic winner of the February 25, election for Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency of Delta State.
Mr Okolie was declared winner of the February 25, House of Representatives election in the federal constituency by the Independent National Electoral Commission, which Elumelu challenged at the tribunal.

Husam opened the front door of the house he shared with his younger brother, Ibrahim. More water flooded in, pulling the door off of its hinges.
The brothers ran to the back door, where they were met by a “ghastly, unimaginable scene, worse than death itself to witness”, Husam said, in a phone interview from the city of Al-Qubbah. Read more

Drake has surprised fans by dropping some serious hints around a new collaboration with R&B superstar SZA, ahead of his upcoming album For All The Dogs. Oh, and it could land as early as tomorrow.
The Canadian rapper is due to release the forthcoming project, which follows last year’s album Honestly, Nevermind, on September 22.
Ahead of the record’s release, Drake has now begun teasing what seems to be a single with SZA. The rapper shared an image of actor Halle Berry being slimed at Nickelodeon’s annual Kids Choice Awards back in 2012. Styled like an CD cover, the image features a “Parental Advisory” logo in the corner, suggesting the picture could well be artwork for a future release. Read more

Generative AI tech firm Metaphysic has finally announced its new system for what it claims could help actors and other individuals to navigate the creation and management of their personal data including their likeness and voice — while saying that early users include Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Paris Hilton and Maria Sharapova.
In January, the company unveiled a strategic partnership with CAA, the talent agency that reps Hanks, Wilson, Spencer and Hathaway.
Thursday’s Metaphysic announcement was light on details, but claims that this system, dubbed Metaphysic Pro, could effectively help actors to use generative AI algorithms to create their own face, voice and performance data over time, as well as help “manage” how it is used by third parties, including consent, compensation and the thorny issue of copyright, which is still being examined in courts. Carrie Underwood is returning to Las Vegas. After a string of successful runs throughout 2022 and 2023, the country superstar has booked nearly 20 new dates of REFLECTION: The Las Vegas Residency at Resorts World Theatre in March, May, June and August 2024. Underwood will take the stage on March 6, 8, 9, 13, 15 and 16; May 22, 25, 26, 29 and 31; June 1 and August 14, 16, 17, 21, 23 and 24.
“Big news for 2024!! I’m so excited to share that #REFLECTION will be continuing at @resortsworldtheatre next year beginning in March!” Underwood shared on Instagram. “We love performing this show for everyone visiting from all over the world, and if you haven’t seen it yet, come see us!”

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said Wednesday on the sidelines of the first-ever bipartisan Senate AI forum that it is “important for us to have a referee” when it comes to regulating artificial intelligence, but Congress is “not yet” ready to step into that role.
Musk made the comment to FOX Business’ Hillary Vaughn and other reporters gathered in Washington, D.C., after meeting with Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Microsoft Founder Bill Gates and other tech leaders on Capitol Hill. Ukraine says it recaptured village near Bakhmut (RTE)
Ukraine has said its forces had retaken a village near the war-battered city of Bakhmut in the eastern Donetsk region, several months into its grinding counteroffensive against entrenched Russian positions.
“We are moving forward in the Bakhmut sector. On the northern flank, the enemy is trying to recapture lost ground. On the southern flank, we are making progress. And we have good news there – Andriivka is ours. We are consolidating our positions,” Deputy Defence Minister Ganna Malyar, announced on social media.
Ukraine earlier said that a child was killed in the country’s south by artillery shelling and that 17 out of 22 Russian drones attacking its territory overnight were downed. Read more

Nigeria made its debut at the recent Invictus Games. Dismissed by critics as a cynical, expensive spectacle, the event is a chance for participants suffering from physical and psychological trauma to exchange ideas.
Dressed in green outfits, Peacemaker Azuegbulam and some Nigerian teammates made their way through the crowd at the Invictus Games. A mixture of chattering school groups, soldiers and yellow-clad volunteers populated the area between the athletics stadium and the large arena in Düsseldorf. The mood is relaxed as, time after time, the Africans stopped for either a selfie or just a short conversation with participants from other nations.

While Sir Jim Ratcliffe still believes the Glazer family want to sell Manchester United, his rival bidder Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani is understood to be less convinced.
The Glazers have been owners of United since 2005, but a statement in November last year indicated they were open to offers. After a lengthy process, British billionaire Ratcliffe and super-rich Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim emerged as the last men standing. A deal has yet to be concluded and even now, as fans of the club wait for a resolution, there appears to be a divide between those pushing for a deal.
According to The Guardian, neither party is desperate to set a deadline on a takeover. However, the same report indicates Sheikh Jassim’s representatives are no longer sure of the Glazers’ plans. Read more

National Basketball Association (NBA) team owners approved on Wednesday tougher rules and larger punishments regarding resting star players, including regulations on multiple All-Stars sitting out regular-season contests, the league announced.
LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers and Kawhi Leonard of the Los Angeles Clippers are among those who have been strategically rested during prior seasons by their clubs.
The league defines a star player as anyone who has been on an NBA All-Star or All-NBA squad over the three previous seasons, or after an All-Star Game in the same season. Read more
