In a break from tradition of presidents reserving their comments for the big day, Donald Trump delivered a campaign-style rally at a downtown Washington arena on the eve of his inauguration last night.
The president-elect spoke about illegal immigration, boasted about his election win and promised to sign “lots” of executive orders on his first day.
He also hinted at pardoning many of the people convicted of attacking the capital on January 6 four years ago, danced to the YMCA on stage with The Village People and shared a hug on stage with billionaire buddy Elon Musk.
‘Lots’ of Executive Orders
Trump promised to sign close to 100 executive orders on his first day in office and said he would ensure that “the curtain closes on four long years of American decline”.
“Starting tomorrow, I will act with historic speed of strength and fix every single crisis facing our country,” he said.
“Every radical, foolish executive order of the Biden administration will be repealed within hours of when I take the oath of office. You’re gonna have a lot of fun watching television. Somebody said yesterday, don’t sign so many in one day, let’s do it over a period of weeks. I said, like hell … no, we’re doing them tomorrow.”
He added: “We’re going to give them the best first day, the biggest first week and the most extraordinary first 100 days of any presidency in American history.”
On the January 6 rioters, he said “everybody in this very large arena will be very happy” with his decision on their future. There was also a promise from Trump that he would outline the “most aggressive, sweeping effort to restore our borders the world has ever seen” during his inaugural address today.
