Since Spider-Man: No , Way Home, Marvel fans have had one question… will Tom Holland return for Spider-Man 4?
Sony bosses have now addressed whether the actor will return in the titular role, after his trilogy finished with the world forgetting Peter Parker.
Tom Rothman, chairman of Sony’s Motion Picture Group, admitted he ‘hopes’ that Sony will work on another Spider-Man (and Spider-Verse 2), though he did not confirm the cast.
“We have our Marvel business, which breaks into three tranches,” he told Deadline. “There are the Spider-Man movies, and we’re currently at work on two Spider-Verse sequels to our Oscar
winning animated movie, with Lord and Miller. We hope to get working on the next Spider-Man movie.”
When he was asked if Tom Holland and his co-star Zendaya, who plays MJ, would return with Jon Watts to direct, once again Rothman said he ‘hopes’ that they will all return.
“That whole group, we hope,” he said. “Then there are movies I would call adjunct to the Spider-Man universe. That’s Kraven, which we’re shooting now, and Madame Web, which we’ll start in the spring with SJ Clarkson directing.
“And then there are many Marvel characters that are standalone. When I took over Sony, it was said, ‘Oh, Sony has no IP’. Not true.”
This comes after Holland hinted that No Way Home might have been his last outing in the suit.
“There definitely was a sense for me, as an actor, that this was the last time that I could potentially don the suit,” he told Deadline earlier this year, “so a lot of that emotion came from the act of saying goodbye, which is one of the biggest themes throughout this film.” (DigitalSpy)
