I turned 15 just as I got into university. I admit I was very lucky. I finished primary school from class 5, got into secondary school the set before the 6-3-3-4 system started, did the WAEC and JAMB examinations just once and got admitted into the university of my choice. I have always been independent having been away from home since I was 10 as I attended an all girls boarding school for my secondary education, but university was a different ball game altogether.
Unlike secondary school, where my life was regimented- morning duties, classes, lunch, siesta, afternoon prep, dinner, evening prep and lights out, I was introduced to new levels of freedom in University, left largely to my devices and apart from the admonitions I received when I went home for visits and holidays no one double checked to ensure that I attended lectures, read my books, did assignments and projects nor did they monitor or ascertain the truthfulness of my assertions.
Left to myself and having a daring and adventurous nature, I reveled fully in my freedom thus, my weekends started from Wednesday and ended on Monday morning. I experimented with alcohol, cigarettes (those cute slim brown ones) relationships, sex and even tried getting marijuana just to experience what it was like. I attended parties sometimes as many as 3 in one night, went to nightclubs (those were the days being female guaranteed free entry) and even travelled to sister universities and neighboring states for parties, shows and carnivals.
Haaa, the days of youthful exuberance.
By the time I got into my third year I had mellowed down, largely due to my encounter with God and also jolted into seriousness by my failing grades. But the parties still went on, ladies were transported in large numbers to attend parties thrown by rich old men who had a yearning for young blood. Sex was the price to pay and many including those sermonizing especially in the Usifo Murder saga paid it willingly.
There is no doubt in my mind that unholy liaisons will continue to exist between younger women/ older men and older women/younger men. It is what we met, some of us are products of it, some of us are currently engaged in it, our parents did it, our generation and that of our children will do it. There are several reasons why people are attracted to an older lover, they are more matured, more experienced in life generally and sexually, more financially stable and more accepting of our faults than our age mates.
No matter how Puritan society has been, each generation has had its fair share of lasciviousness and immorality coupled with greed and adventure, we were and are no saints but I must say that Generation Y and Z have taken things to a different level.
Let me be the first to say that I admire them a lot, they are woke. Certainly more expressive, more sure of what they want and do not hide it; more innovative and creative in ways that amaze me. They own their space and apologize to no one for who or what they are or want.
However, when it comes to morals, values and decency they fall way down the ladder. They seem to be oblivious to the fact that somethings ought not to be said in public, that not everyone is interested in their private lives, (at most they make for cannon fodder) that there are certain attires for specific functions and venues and that wearing extremely revealing clothing leaving nothing to the imagination speaks volumes about their insecurities. That their heavy reliance on all sorts of chemicals and concoctions to get high belie their mental health and demons and that their flippant indulgence in casual sex and the desire to let the world know who is sharing their bed ( going far as taking and sharing videos ) is indicative of a mental ailment.
They have no filters, no chill, no sense of worth, no respect for themselves and others, no morals, no shame, no decency. They engage in everything and anything mostly for the hype and popularity and they are not circumspect in their dealings especially with the opposite sex. They see their bodies as a means to an end available to the highest bidder, however, if anyone treats them the way they treat or portray themselves they are quick to claim sexual harassment.
They exist in every gender, the ladies sucking up to older men and the young men pandering to the fancies of older rich women. They pimp themselves for as little as a restaurant meal or as much as a house on Banana Island their bodies being their main source of income. They however forget that many have strode their paths and have been discarded, many who were the cynosure of all eyes due to their beauty and bodies have fallen by the way side, their places taken by women who were younger and more outstanding in their beauty. They forget that very few of their predecessors have something to show for having shared their bed and bodies with a famous or rich man/woman.
They forget that the beautiful ones are not yet born and that someday they will take the back seat having been upstaged by a pretty young thing who goes eagerly into the cycle oblivious of their destination and the fate that awaits him/her.
