UBA’s pack of lies unravels; over 4,000 staff were sacked not 1,000

Thisislagos’s story on UBA’s sack of over 1,000 staff early in the New Year is generating reactions from former staff affected by the action.

A staff who was disengaged from a branch in Lagos has provided thisislagos with full details on how the disengagement exercise took place.

But first she had a correction to make. The figure we quoted in our story for sacked members of staff was not correct, she said. “You are so right about this but is [sic] not 1,000 but more than 4,000.”

The former staff who requested for anonymity said the bank sent emails to branch managers with a list of sacked staff. The branch managers informed the affected staff who were then asked to resign or lose their entitlements.

The affected staff were immediately locked out of their systems with all access denied.

Our source said severance packages were promised staff but staff with loans may not see the promised sums even though the loans were insured against sack and other eventualities.

See below the resignation later she was forced to write and sign under duress.
