Outrage over new viral video of assault on policeman in Lagos (Leadership)
An undated viral video which surfaced on Wednesday involving a motorist and a policeman is currently causing public outrage on the social media after the motorist was seen assaulting the armless policeman over an argument in Lagos.
The policeman had apparently insisted on impounding what looks like a mini-truck. Argument ensued between the policeman and a man holding a bottle at the back of the vehicle, who was trying to force the security man to come down from the truck.
Onlookers were also heard from the backgroud prodding the man with the bottle, who is apparently the owner of the vehicle, to assault the policeman and the latter brazenly did by hitting the policeman with the bottle on the head.
A Twitter user APC Support with the handle @APCNigeria, which posted the video, condemned the assault on the policeman. Read more
6 cultists nabbed during initiation in Lagos (Punch)
Six suspected cultists have been arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly conducting initiation rites and attacking one Temidire Ogunbajo at Majidun, in the Ikorodu area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Tuesday that policemen attached to the Ikorodu Division and local vigilantes arrested one Fatai Kalejaiye, 25, while initiating one Kolapo Ayeobasan, 20, around 7.30pm on April 19, 2021.
“Fatai, who has confessed to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity, was caught while performing rites of initiation on the second suspect, Kolapo,” the PPRO stated. Read more
Lagos impounds 81 motorcycles on restricted routes (Guardian)
Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit popularly called ‘Task Force,’ yesterday, impounded 81 motorcycles for plying restricted routes in the state.
The 81 motorcycles were impounded at Jakande Estate, Isolo, for endangering the lives of other road users. The chairman, Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit, CSP Shola Jejeloye, who led the operation, stated that the seizure was in line with enforcement of the Lagos State Traffic Law and to halt the flagrant abuse of traffic laws by the motorcyclists.
He noted that government was concerned about the recklessness of motorcyclists on restricted routes, and therefore became necessary to help the motorcyclists by saving their own lives and those of other road users.
He pointed out that the government would not allow motorcyclists to create chaos for other road users on prohibited routes, adding that it had become crucial for the government to prevent an increase in the trend of crime perpetrated by motorcyclists in the metropolis, particularly in prohibited routes. EFCC Arrests 14 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Lagos (Channels)
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday said it has arrested 14 suspected internet fraudsters in Lagos.
This was contained in a statement signed by the commission’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren.
According to the statement, the suspects are: Abiodun Gbolahan Seidu, Joseph Aganaga Ndubuisi, Sodimu Olawale Sikirudeen, Ohaekim Christopher, Ambali Oluwaseyi Rahman, Chibuzor Ebubedike, Salvador Abduljabar and Omohogbo Donald Ede.
Others are: Thomas Obire Tobiloba, Olatunbosun Adeniyi Abiodun, Olugbemi Oluwatomigbeleke Eniola, Sanni Azeez Olayinka, Joseph Afenikhena Osaoman and Hamed Olayinka Olanrewaju. Read more
5 policemen on trial for extorting N200,000 from Dubai-based Nigerian (DailyTrust)
Lagos State Police Command says it has commenced orderly room trial for five policemen at FESTAC Police Station for allegedly collecting N200,000 from a Dubai-based Nigerian who was home visiting his family.
The policemen had allegedly followed the victim to a local Point of Sale (POS) cash point in FESTAC where the said amount was extorted from him.
The policemen had accosted the victim while driving home in an Uber car.
It was learnt that the victim who recently arrived in the country from Dubai, and was also heading home from the airport, had shared the story of how police officers in FESTAC town stopped him and extorted N200, 000 from him. Read more
One killed as gunmen attack Lagos chairmanship aspirant (Punch)
Gunmen have shot dead 54-year-old Ifeanyi Godfrey during an attack on the office of an All Progressive Congress chairmanship aspirant in the Ijede area of Ikorodu Lagos State, Oluwatosin Onamade.
PUNCH Metro gathered Oluwatosin and his workers, including his brother, Oluwafemi, were at the office when the gunmen suddenly stormed the premises and started shooting.
It was learnt that Godfrey was gunned down during the attack, while others sustained bullet wounds and Oluwafemi was beaten unconscious and was rushed to hospital for treatment.
Oluwatosin said, “I am a chairmanship aspirant and I was in the office when the hoodlums came with guns and cutlasses and vandalised my property at my office, Western Funeral Home Limited, and killed one of my domestic workers, Ifeanyi Godfrey. He was shot in the head. The hoodlums were about 35 and also beat my brother to a state of unconsciousness. So, we rushed him to the Ijede General Hospital.” Read more
Man held for assaulting Police ASP in Lagos (Nation)
Operatives of the Lagos Police Command have arrested a man, Victor Ebhomenyen, 33, for assaulting an officer on duty.
Ebhomenyen was captured in a viral video violently pushing the policeman identified as Erhator Sunday around Four Point Hotel, Oniru, Victoria Island, on Saturday morning.
The fully clad and armed policeman was also seen in the video exercising restraint despite provocation from the suspect, alleged to have been arrested for driving against traffic.
Although what transpired before the physical attack on the policeman was not recorded, different accounts of the incident have since surfaced on the social media. Read more
4 Ogun teenage cultists arrested in Lagos (Punch)
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command in the Alakuko area of the state on Friday arrested four suspected cultists.
The suspects, it was gathered, came from Ogun State for reprisal attacks on rival cult members at Junior Secondary Schools, Akinyele, Alakuko.
The suspects are 18-year-old Tosin Balogun, m; 15-year-old Sunday Dare, m; 14-year-old Jubril Olayinka, m; and 15-year-old Sani Babatunde.
Spokesperson for the police in Lagos, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement, said Balogun and Olayinka are students of Odewale Community High School Ijoko Ogun State. He added that Babatunde is a student of Tunik International School, Dalemo Alakuko; while Dare is a tailoring apprentice at Alakuko. Read more
Gang of robbers busted in Lagos Guest House (PMNews)
The Lagos State Police Command says its operatives have arrested a gang of armed robbers at Ojota area of the State.
According to command’s spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi the operatives of D9 (Anti Robbery) Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba on Saturday 17th April, 2021 arrested the suspects.
He said the police acted upon information received to arrest the suspects.
The suspects are: Victor Alfred, Chubike Ikeh Donatus and Isiaka Olamide, all 19 years of age, at Marble Guest House, No 33 Ajibike Street, Ogudu Ojota, at about 3.25m. Read more
Hoodlums hack Lagos guard to death, injure colleague (Punch)
A 38-year-old security guard, Saliu Dairi, has met his death at the hands of some hoodlums who attacked him and his colleague, one Isiaka Samba, on their duty post on Alimosho Road, Pako bus stop, Lagos.
Dairi reportedly died from machete cuts inflicted on him by the thugs while Samba sustained injuries to an eye.
City Round learnt that the guards stopped the hoodlums wielding cutlasses around 1am while they were passing through the area and demanded to know where they were heading for.
They reportedly got angry and descended on the guards, attacking them with cutlasses and sticks. Read more
Rapper CDQ granted bail, still under investigation – NDLEA (Punch)
Popular rap artiste, CDQ, has been granted bail by the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency, though he remains under investigation.
On Wednesday night, men of the NDLEA arrested Sodiq Yusuf, popularly known as CDQ, in his Lekki residence.
He was said to have been picked up by the anti-drug enforcement agency for allegedly violating the drug law following an intelligence report which the agency caught wind of.
However, in an exclusive chat with The PUNCH, NDLEA’s Director, Media, and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, confirmed his arrest, saying the case was still being investigated as some substance known as ‘loud’ ― a cannabis variant ― was found in the rapper’s house.
Babafemi said, “Yes, CDQ was arrested in his house at Lekki for being in possession of cannabis. He was arrested based on intelligence. As of last night, he was granted administrative bail, but he is expected back into custody today because it is an ongoing investigation.
“Some substances were found and he mentioned some names of some other big artistes. So, it is an ongoing investigation.” Read more
Police recover charms from suspected cultists arrested in Lagos (Guardian)
The Police Operatives attached to Sagamu Road Division, Ikorodu in Lagos State have arrested, one Rasheed Isiaka, alleged to be terrorising residents of Ikorodu.
According to a statement signed by the State Police Command’s Spokesperson, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the suspect was arrested on April 15 at about 12:10 a.m., at Olowonisaye Street in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Adejobi said in the statement the the suspect had been alleged to have perpetrated many crimes in Ikorodu area.
The spokesman said that Isiaka had been placed under surveillance due to the intelligence gathered on him before he was eventually arrested.“Items recovered from him after his arrest include: two locally-made pistols, one laptop, two suspected stolen Bajaj motorcycles, two knives and some assorted charms.” he said.
