So guess whose birthday it was last Friday? Mine!
Ok, calm down everybody…and thanks for the song!!!
Birthdays used to be a source of joy when I was a child. It used to be a special occasion; there were lots of sweet things to eat, reasons to smile and be happy as people sang your praises. However as we got older, the birth month approached with anxiety.
I remember how sad I was last year on my birthday, busy counting off items on my list I hadn’t achieved, and all the things I want to do but see me, see old age. I know it is a very myopic way to look at things, because why not count the blessings and all the things you have done and the things you are making plans to do?
So this year sha, I was determined to be happy on my birthday. But how to pull it off? A brief background – I am the definition of a home body. I am happiest on my bed, happier in my house, happy when I have no reason to leave my house. So, you now understand why I have so much time to entertain thoughts of ‘you are not enough, you are a failure,’ on my birthday?
I might not be sure of many things in this sad sad world but the one thing I am sure of is that I am surrounded by the sweetest people. I have the most amazing friends. So, in the days leading up to my birthday, I tweeted a list of things I wanted as presents for my birthday knowing that my friends would not let me down.
And when the D-day came, two of my good friends Konga’d Me. You are wondering what it means to be Konga’d abi? Oya, get your mind out of the gutter.
Remember Yudala merged with Konga? Well, the new Konga that emerged from this merger has been widely recognized as the best source of genuine products by savvy Nigerians and trendy shoppers. But best of all, their delivery is so prompt!
So, the name Konga Me arose as a smart way of shopping for or requesting quality gifts or favours.
I knew my birthday and New Year would be awesome from the moment the first friend said he would Konga Me. I got two awesome presents courtesy Konge Me but as an Oliver Twist, I am still open for more presents please, so kindly Konga Me too.
Oya go and Konga your friends and family, too.
Happy weekend fam.
