I have been around now for almost half a century and I can say with all certainty that Life is very unpredictable.
Life is funny, weird, unfathomable and uncertain. It brings things our way that take our breaths away, it dishes so many different courses that make us wonder about its meaning.
Things happen that we don’t understand, cannot comprehend and they leave us staggering under the weight of emotions that surprise, overwhelm and frighten us.
We never know what life has in store for us and it never shows it’s hand all at once. Sometimes we are prepared to meet life’s challenges but so many times Life surprises us.
When I attend weddings the thought that most often crosses my mind when looking at the newly weds is “what will Life bring their way, what does the future hold for them?”
The truth is that our lives never turn out the way we visualize , there are a lot of twists and turns that we can never anticipate, foresee or plan for. There will be events that would upset our well laid out plans and projections.
I have had cause to look back at the events of my life and I know that if I had the privilege of seeing all that would come my way l would have declined to go forward at so many points and I would not have gleefully made plans for the future that I knew nothing about and I would have taken advantage of every moment lived which is all I truly could lay claim to.
Inspite of life’s uncertainties there are some things that are sure. One of the certainties of life is that bad times will come. We will have times of sadness, anger, anxiety , fear, grief, loss etc.
We have been sold a lie when told that being prayerful and serving God diligently will grant us immunity from life’s troubles. The truth is that the rain and sun fall and shine on everyone, both the good and the bad. We all dread difficult times and will do almost anything to avoid them inspite of the fact that all religions talk about suffering .
I am not exempt in this because even though the Christian faith to which I belong tells me that tribulations will come, I still do not accept to walk through them when they come even though l am assured that l shall overcome them.
For most of us , troubles seem to indicate that we have fallen short of God’s favor, however, that is not necessarily the case. If we live on the face of this earth long enough, we will encounter difficult times and not one of us will ever escape troubles. The type, tenure and timing of life challenges for each person is the differentiating factor.
Our response to challenges differs from person to person and what will make one stronger will weaken another. The essence of life is seen in our ability to respond to its challenges. Man’s greatest challenges have been the site of his greatest victories. The ability to surmount one’s challenges depends on the perspective we have towards suffering and pain.
We must begin to see that adversity and failure are parts of life and fundamental to our growth as human beings. We must begin to seek out the lessons pain teaches even though we may not understand why we are the instruments upon which the lessons are taught.
The natural laws are a guide to the rules that govern Life. We have the laws of sowing and reaping and the law of seasons. Nature shows that there are different seasons in life and the ability to embrace and not fight against that which is natural is vital in overcoming the fall and winter seasons of our lives.
Life is a cycle and there will be good and bad times. If you are caught in the bad times do remember that seasons change, you will laugh yet again, your heart will rejoice and your joy will return.
